#the Decade of Fifties – 1951 – 1960 #

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Dwaarikaadheesh-1956’. This movie is making its debut on this blog today.
With over twenty thousand songs already on the blog, and over six thousand of them being from the decade of 1951-1960, I was shocked to note that this movie was still missing from the blog. I was even more surprised when I listened to a few songs from this movie. I must say that this movie has some great melodious compositions in it. It is likely that the songs from this movie were not available online in the past. Personally I had not heard any songs of this movie anywhere to the best of my knowledge. Nevertheless, almost four thousand songs from the decade of 1951-1960 are still missing from the blog. Some of them are available and some more songs may become available with time. As we cover these missing songs, we will come across movies that have not yet made their debuts in the blog.
I checked and double checked and finally came to the conclusion that this movie “Dwarkadheesh” is making its debut today in the blog.
‘Dwaarikaadheesh-1956’ was directed by Natwar Shyam for ‘Bhagyoday Pictures, Bombay’. This movie was passed by the Censor Board on 26.12.1956. The cast of this movie had Nirupa Roy, Shahu Modak, Sapru, Sulochana, Durga Khote, Kamal Kapoor, Kamal, Sunder, Yashodhara Katju, Jharna Ghosh, Suryakant, Ramshastri, Lajendra, C.J. Pande, Tiwari and others.
Geet Kosh lists nine songs from this movie which are all written by Bharat Vyas. Music for this movie was composed by Avinash Vyas. Manna Dey and Asha Bhonsle are the only singers of this movie. Asha Bhonsle’s voice appears in five songs including four solos, one of them accompanied by chorus. In the footnote for this movie page, there is mention of the the possibility of there being one more Asha Bhonsle solo song accompanied by chorus. The exac description of singers for this song being “female voice and chorus”
While checking for the song being discussed, I found that this song could be in two parts in the movie and therefore they are mentioned separately. Part one is mentioned as ‘Tarse ankhiyaan daras ko … main nainaa hoon tum kaajal ho’ and part two as ‘jamunaa kinaare damke taarey, chamcham karey aakash re..’.
Luckily both these parts are available in one audio link, (if at all they are two). However, the starting lines ‘tarse ankhiyaan daras ko’ are missing in the available link/s of this song. There is also this possibility that this song could be just a single song.
The song is based on Gujarati Folk dance of Raas Garbaa. It is a nice melodious song to listen to.
