Taking a break from Asha Bhosle’s songs I am turning to her elder sister for this post and the next one. Unfortunately I don’t have much Information About this song other than what is given in the description of this song. This is reproduced below. The song is uploaded by panchammagic.org. The site seems to defunct at the Moment, but is still full of interesting Information on Pancham’s Career.
“Another special new year gift from Pancham da’s childhood friend Badal Bhattacharya ji’s family and Panchammagic, Pune.
Panchammagic was blessed to interact with Mili Badal Bhattacharya ji and her daughter Doel ji in their last visit to Pune in January 2020.
Pancham da had a special bond with the entire Bhattacharya family as Badal da was his childhood friend. Pancham da used to send his compositions, songs to Badal da and Mili di regularly. Panchammagic was fortunate to have access to some of the spools which Mili di preserved very carefully.
Today, on Pancham da’s 29th death anniversary, Panchammagic is releasing yet another unreleased gem of Rahul Dev burman. The song may have been recorded in 1968-69 in the voice of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar ji. The placement of the song on the spool is between Movie Talash songs, so it is possible that this song may have been recorded during that time.
There is no reference of the movie for which this song may have been recorded. The Lyricist of this song is also not known. The same ‘dhun’ was again used by Pancham da for ‘Jeene ka din, Mar Jaane ka Mausam hai’ – Gomti Ke Kinare (1972).”
As we know the Music of Talaash (1969) was composed by S. D. Burman. But we also know that Pancham used to compose and record songs for his Father. Since this song was found on a spool between Talash songs, S. D. Burman should be credited for this song. But if Pancham hadn’t composed it, he wouldn’t have sent it to Badal Bhattacharyaji. Moreover I can’t really see it between the songs of Talaash. The Talaash album seems to be made out of one mould and the songs seem somehow related to each other. This song sounds to be the odd man out. So I can imagine that the song was recorded during those times but need not have been part of the Talaash soundtrack.
When you listen to the song, you will realise that Pancham used the same tune for the “jeene kaa din mar jaane kaa mausam” for Gomti Ke Kinare (1972). Even the orchestration is similar. So when I first heard this song, I thought it was a twin song, which was to be filmed on the heroine of the movie, but got cancelled. Only after reading the description did I throw away this hypothesis. But I won’t wax upon something, which I know nothing about and let you enjoy the beautiful song.
