Today’s song is from an obscure and less known Costume film- Captain Kirti kumar-1937.
The year 1937 was a year of Revolution for the newly started Talkie Film. Initially the films were mainly based on Folk tales, Parsi dramas and Mythological stories. 1937 was a year in which the Film industry was trying to drop its old skin and don a New Avtar. From this year, a variety of subjects were used to make films. If we briefly look at some path breaking, landmark films using Novel themes, we will understand how the film industry was attempting to change itself.

The film was made by New theatres, Calcutta. It was directed by Bimal Roy. This was his last film as a Director of a New Theatre film. After this film, he came to Bombay and settled here. His first film in Bombay as a director was a film by Bombay Talkies- Maa-1952. Both New Theatres and Bombay Talkies were on the anvil of closure when Bimal Roy directed their films. The Music Director for today’s film was R.C.Boral. The cast of the film consisted of Smriti Biswas, Balraj Vij, Pahadi Sanyal, Zahar Roy, Heeralal Asit Sen, Bela Bose and many others. Mukesh and his Co-Singers –17
Continuing the series on Mukesh and his co-singers, I bring forth the songs that he sang with Usha Timothy. Today, April 11, 2026, is the 86th birthday of Ameeta, who regaled the Hindi film audience through her films of 1950s and 1960s, both in leading as well as in side roles. She came into prominence with box office successful films, ‘Tumsa Naheen Dekha’ (1957) and ‘Goonj Uthi Shehnai’ (1959) in leading roles and in ‘Mere Mehboob’ (1963) in a side role. But luck was not in her favour and despite the initial success with her good acting prowess, she could not achieve stardom.
