The world of Hindi Classical Music has produced so many maestros both in vocal and in instrumental category. We have different maestros of different gharanas in the field of vocal music and same is the case in different instrument categories too. In the field of string instuments, we have sitar, veena, sarangi, sarod, and a few more. When we take the name or even think of sitar, the first name that comes to our mind is Pandit Ravi Shankar, whose real name is Robindro Shaunkor Chowdhury.

O P Nayyar would not employ the voice of Lata Mangeshkar in his compositions, but no one found it ironic that Lata Mangeshkar’s younger sister became the mainstay of O P Nayyar compositions.

As it turned out, that was not the only film I saw on that flight. It was a long flight so I managed to see another film that I’d been wanting to see for a long time – Leader (1964), starring Dilip Kumar and Vyjanthimala.

Life is often likened to a journey in Hindi movie songs. This is one comparison that I find quite appropriate. In fact, many other activities during our lifetimes can also be likened to a journey. For instance, this blog is indeed much like a journey. I have often described it as a musical bandwagon that is going on and on, adding fellow passengers on the way and passing milestones after milestones.

I often get confused between the two similarly named movies of 1960s, viz “Shikaar” and “Shikaari”. The confusion is compounded by the fact that both movies had similar storylines, where the hero would go to a jungle for “shikaar” where he would enounter tribals wearing Red Indian/ African kinds of heargears etc and the daughter of the chief would be the chief female dancer among the tribal dance troupe that would sing and dance at the drop of a spear.

I am coming round to the view that the popular category of songs, viz “How come this soong was not posted earlier” contains not just hundreds, but thousands of songs. There are so many great songs that have not yet figured in the blog, despite this blog boasting of over 5500 songs.

Tere Ghar Ke Samne is one of the great movies offered up by Indian Cinema. It stars Dev Anand, Nutan, Om Prakash, Hrindranath Chattopadhyaya and Rajendranath. As was mandatory, this movie had some of the lovliest songs ever, thanks to lyrics by Hasrat Jaipuri, set to music by SD Burman, sung to perfection by Lata, Asha and Rafi.
