Has anyone heard of a Bollywood movie called “Aurat” ? Well, I am aware of three movies by this name. One was a movie made by Mahboob Khan in 1940s. Later he remade it as “Mother India”. The second one was made in 1953. The third “Aurat ” was made in 1967.

Manoj Kumar was a movie maker who would make movies with simplistic messages telling India was good, west was bad ( Purab aur paschim), Villagers were good, city folks were bad ( Upkaar ) etc. In this connection, here is this movie “Yaadgaar” (1970) where Manoj Kumar continues to shove his ideals down the throats of public.

If one watched a bollywood movie in 1960s and 1970s, one was sure to have a Helen dance accompanied by a song. This song will have little relevance to the story line of the movie and Helen will not be found anywhere else in the movie, but her dance was still regarded as a major attraction of the movie.

O P Nayyar had fixed singing templates for his singers to follow. His female singers needed to sing in Asha Bhonsle style, and his male singers needed to sing in Rafi style. In case one of these singers were not available for recording the song, then the replacement singer was required to sing in the same way.

“Aadmi aur insaan” (1969) had Ravi’s music. When I looked at the list of songs that I have posted from this movie, I found that I had posted just one song, and that too a “lesser” known one. Knowing Ravi, he creates a bagful of hit songs in every movie where he is the music director, many of which have gone on to become iconic songs.
