Yesterday (24 january 2015) became a dot day for the blog. This normally happens when for some reason I am unable to find time for blogging. This song has over the years been heard here and there. I was aware this is some remix song of an old song, just like the remix of the song ‘Kitni Akeli Kitni Tanhaa Si Lagi‘ from film ‘Talaash’ (1969). I used to think that ‘Kitni Akeli. . . ‘ song was a Kishore Kumar song and remixed. It was many years later that I heard the original Lata Mangeshkar song composed by SD Burman.

23rd December was the anniversary of passing away of two artists that have a significant contribution to the Indian cinema – singer Noorjehaan and music director K Datta.
Noorjehaan, born as Allah Wasai in 1926, was one of the eleven siblings born into a family of musicians and singers. Her parents, Madad Ali and Fateh Bibi encouraged her and at the age of six years, she learnt music at the feet of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. When she was nine, her talent caught the attention of Ghulam Ahmed Chishti, who brought her to stage programs in Lahore, in which she appeared as Baby Noorjehaan. She gained attention in Lahore, and was invited to sing and to play child roles in Punjabi films being produced in Lahore. She appeared in films like ‘Misr Ka Sitaara’ (1935), and played the role of child Heer, in the Punjabi film ‘Heer Sayaal’.

Today (21 september 2014) is the 88th birth anniversary of Noorjahaan (21 september 1926-23 december 2000). It is an event that may have gone largely unnoticed in Indian media (I am not sure because I do not watch news on TV. Going by the faceboook groups that I frequent, only one site recalled this event. It was through that site that I came to know of this date being the birth anniversary of Mallika e Tarannum.
