Chaandni raaten – Song No. 17
————————————–
chandni raaten
ho. . oo. .
chaandni raaten
sab jag soye
ham jaagen
taaron se karen baaten
ho. . oo. .
chaandni raaten
ho. . oo. .
chaandni raaten
This song has over the years been heard here and there. I was aware this is some remix song of an old song, just like the remix of the song ‘Kitni Akeli Kitni Tanhaa Si Lagi‘ from film ‘Talaash’ (1969). I used to think that ‘Kitni Akeli. . . ‘ song was a Kishore Kumar song and remixed. It was many years later that I heard the original Lata Mangeshkar song composed by SD Burman.
Similar is the case with the above mentioned ‘Chaandni Raaten’ song where the remix was heard often either on radio or may be I heard it somewhere as a background song in a Mahesh Bhatt movie. Why I thought the movie is by Mahesh Bhatt is a mystery. Years later I came to know about the originial Noorjehaan song from a Pakistani film. I even found the remix version by Bally Sagoo on YouTube and was toying with the option to have it in this series. But that remix is like a pale imitation of the original.
Noor Jahan as a phenomena is a recent discovery for me. I was aware of some of her famous songs like ‘Awaaz De Kahaan Hai‘ and ‘Jawaan Hai Muhobbat‘ but did not really know her voice. After becoming involved with the blog I have become more acquainted with her songs and her voice.
Khair, we now have a hindi film song by Noorjehaan to fit the theme. Thanks to Bharat Sir ji, it is possible to include this song in the series. This is a happy sounding solo song by her from the movie ‘Zeenat’ (1945). Music for this film was composed by Mir Sahab and Hafiz Khan. This song is composed by Hafiz Khan. There are four lyricist credited namely Mahrul Qadri, Nakshab Jarchavi, Anjum Pilibhit, and Shewan Rizvi. Specific name of the lyricist of this song is not identified. The song is picturized on Noorjehaan herself, although only partial video clip of the song is available on YouTube.
The full audio link is a treat to listen. I got the feeling of floating on the waves while listening to this song again and again. The interlude music is having the sound of ‘ chirping birds ‘ which is strange, as the song talks about sitaaro and chaand. Seems like this gem too got lost in the ocean of hindi film songs. It is time for it to be heard again and appreciated.

@ nahm ji – thanks for this wonderful gem.
When I was growing in the late 70’s, I get to watch many of the old B/W films in our colony club’s weekly screening of films. I had watched ‘Anmol Ghadi’ then.
Thereafter when I get addicted to old songs and Radio, I listened old gems on AIR-Urdu service regularly. When I started my music collection I got this ‘magic moments- Noor Jehan’ by hmv in my collection (17.09.87). And thanks to ASAD that I get an opportunity to share few songs sung by Noor Jehan ji.
Thanks !!!!!!!!
