The year is 1946, and the song “Dil Jalta Hai. . .” from ‘Pehli Nazar’ (1945, MD – Anil Biswas) is now well known. The staying power and popularity of this song can be judged from the fact that over the years, many people started to consider this song as his debut song, completely forgetting his other songs from 1941 to 1944. With this success behind him, Mukesh was now a more sought after singer, as is evident from the dramatic increase in his singing assignments in 1946.

“Door Ka Raahi” (1971) was produced and directed by Kishore Kumar. This movie had Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar, Tanuja, Padma Khanna, Samir Kumar, Gautam Mukherji, Iftekhar, Amit Kumar, Ganga, Abhi Bhattacharya, Bambi, Hiralal, Asit Sen, Yograj, Keshto Mukherjee, Deepa etc in it.

Kishore Kumar, who was externally a jovial and boisterous character had a sensitive side to him as well. He could sing serious and sensitive songs with the same ease with which he rendered fun songs. When it came to producing movies, Kishore Kumar has produced rip roaring comedy viz. “Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi” (1958) and “Jhumru” (1961), but many of his subsequent movies dealt with sensitive topics. These movies were far ahead of their times and the Indian masses were by and large not evolved enough to appreciate Kishore Kumar’s subsequent movies on serious topics, namely “Door Gagan Ki Chhaaon Mein”(1964), “Door Ka Raahi” (1971), “Door Waadiyon Mein” (1982).

“Jeevan Rekha” (1974), though a recent movie by the standards of this blog, is one of the more obscure movies. Not much is known about this movie. It was produced by Parshuram J Devnani and directed by N Bhatt. The movie had Chandrashekhar, Ajit, Farida Jalal, K. N. Singh, Pran, Farida Jalal, Tabrez, Jalal Agha, Keshto Mukherjee, Asit Sen, Manmohan etc in it.

Different people like different kinds of songs. When I was young, I loved to listen to light hearted and playful songs especially those sung by Kishore Kumar. Now I find that my taste has become more diversified. 🙂 I now like songs of lots of genre.
