“Amaanat” (1975) was produced and directed by Shatrujit Paul. The movie had Manoj Kumar, Sadhana, Balraj Sahni, Mehmood, Achalka Sachdev, Shashikala, Keshto Mukherji etc in it. This movie began in 1960s and its songs got released much before the movie. The movie itself had a very delayed release. It finally got its censor certificate on 31 december 1975 and thus qualified as a movie of 1975!

It is well known that he was inspired by the English film ” The life of Christ”. He decided to bring to the screen Indian Gods and stories associated with them.

Dadasaheb Phalke chose the subject of a Mythological story to make his first full length silent film “Raja Harischandra”-1913, because people could readily identify with such stories. The fact that his hunch was correct is borne out by the fact that religious and mythological films, as a group, continued to outnumber the other types of films for the next 40-50 years.

It was during my 1970s when I was in the prime of my movie watching age. It does not mean that I was getting to watch lots of movies those days though. I did not get to watch any movies from six years straight from mid 1972 to mid 1978 and thus I was deprived of movie watching during my prime movie watching age. 🙂
