Salim and Anarkali have been a favourite topic of Bollywood movies in 1950s and 1960s. In 1950s, there was in fact a movie called “Anarkali” (1953) which was a musical blockbuster. It had Pradeep Kumar and Bina Rai in the roles of Salim and Anarkali respectively. In 1960, “Mughal e Azam” was produced, where Dilip Kumar and Madhubala played these roles. This movie was just as big a musical blockbuster as “Anarkali” (1953).

We have seen songs picturised on Raj Kapoor that were sung mostly by Mukesh, but sometimes by other playback singers as well. For example, there were occasions when Rafi, Manna Dey, Talat Mehmood etc have sung for Raj Kapoor. In fact, in a few early movies, Raj Kapoor sang for himself !
