“Dekha Jaayegaa”(1960) is as obscure a movie asny. This quintessential B movie was produced by Ravi Kapoor and directed by O P Khanna for Marvel Productions, Bombay. The movie had Kamran, Lilian, Nasreen, Amarnath, Sherry, Kumud Tripathi, Amrit Rana, Sukhdev, Soni, Mohan Modi, Zippy, Robert, Dilip, Haroon, Kader, Ahmad, Badshah, Ibrahim, Gulaab, Moti (the dog) etc in it.

When she appeared on the film scene in 1965-66, the she was christened as the Sophia Loren of the Indian film industry. Considered to be one of the more daring cabaret dancers on screen, she actually expressed her extreme dislike for it, stating that primarily she is not a dancer, she never trained to be. It is now a time tested experience. If I need to locate a real gem of a song for a particular artist, I simply search for one in completely obscure films that one may have just heard of. This technique has served well on many occasions in the past. And once again today. For this post, I wanted to locate a song that befits the memories of the artist. And as I checked out the films, I narrowed down on this one – ‘Dark Street’ from 1961. As I checked the song lists of this film, sure enough, hiding away here in this almost unknown film is this gem of a melody that is created by Dattaram.
Remembering Dattaram on the anniversary of his passing away today (8th June).

Aah, the wonderful world of Chitragupt’s melodies. A composer par excellence, whose creations do never cease to surprise, as one continues to come encounter heretofore songs that seemed to have got lost in the folds of time. What may be a good definition of a friend? I am sure everyone will have many an answer to this question. I would like to add this following definition to that list today. A good friend is one who will remind you of a wonderful melodious song, that you may have heard long back, and have forgotten about it, or maybe you have not heard it and he or she introduced you to it.
