Today is 10 august 2014 and the festival of Raakhi falls today. Seeing that this day is not declared as a holiday in most offices, it helps if this festival falls on the weekend, like how it is this time, when it has fallen on a sunday.

GEMS FROM THE MIGRATORS…..song no.10…LAST SONG OF THE SERIES.
——————————————————————-
After Partition in 1947, it did not take long for things to become normal in the Indian film industry. This was mainly because ready replacements were available in plenty to fill the vacancies caused by migration. As far as producers and financers were concerned, almost all producers and film makers had arrived here from Lahore. It was actually Lahore which felt the absence of Film makers. Pakistan film Industry was somehow managed well by the experienced people who went from India and Pakistan enjoyed a ” GOLDEN AGE OF FILMS AND MUSIC ” from 1959 to 1977. Once the old generation retired, there was no second line to take over from them.

We Indians are known to be inquisitive about the personal lives of others, more so in the semi-urban and rural settings. Historically, this trait may have come from community living in hamlets where there were closer ties with families through interactions. This also helped in keeping abreast with what was happening around them. Inquisitiveness is not confined to India alone. It has also been observed in other developed countries, though to a lesser extent. I have personally experienced it in a couple of European countries.

GEMS FROM THE MIGRATORS…..song no. 9
———————————————-
When we talk of Partition and Migration of artistes from one country to another, only the famous and the well known names are taken. There were hundreds of small time actors, directors, lyricists, composers, instrument players, chorus singers, technicians etc who were not known to many and also had migrated for various reasons. The other day I was reading a book, ” Who’s who: Music in Pakistan ” written by A.Shaikh and M.Shaikh. In this book I found several names of singers, composers, lyricists and above all instrument players, who shifted to Pakistan.

Very enthusiastically and patting myself for this original idea, I started the work and then I realised that this was a mammoth project requiring lot of time and patience !
