I do not like getting bored. Do you ? I am sure, no one wants to get bored, forget liking it. Have you ever thought about what is ” Liking ” ? Psychology says, you like a thing when it is in line with your thinking, your values and your beliefs. For example – an old man does not ” Like ” the behaviour of ” Youngsters “, because they do not think on his lines, their values are adapted to current times and they believe only in practical ways and not emotional ways !

I had almost forgotten about the existence of a film titled ‘Room No. 9’ (1946) until I came across a song from the film on one of the video sharing platforms a few days back. I checked on our Blog to know that two songs from the film was covered in the Blog as early as in March 2013 but surprisingly, the song which I had heard has not yet been covered in the Blog. I liked the song so much that I decided to share the song on the Blog with a small write-up.

Writing on old films, its people and its music is an unusual hobby. Such people are very few and what they write is read by a limited but a large circle. This group of people are exclusive and generally they are not recognised by the society. Funnily, ” writing on old films” is mainly ( and wrongly) equated with old songs only. people are not aware that there is a world beyond old songs and music as far as old films are concerned.

During 1966-72, I used to watch one Hindi film almost every week-end. I had only two main criteria for selecting a film. First, I should be able to procure a ticket without a long queue either in advance or current booking. Second, the film should be from a good banner which meant that ‘B’ and ‘C’ grade films were out of my reckoning.

Today’s song is from the film ‘Kaun Pardesi’-1947. As per HFGK this film was a ‘ Social Film’, but the makers of this film gave a different description of their film. In one of the posters of this film, it is announced that this film was ” A Stunt cum Magic and Music cum Dance Social film”. Possibly this was an ” all inclusive” film and what remained was to include ‘ Mythological’ and ‘ Historical’ words in its description !
