Yearwise discussion of Lata Mangeshkar songs in HFM: Part I: 1946-1947
Today (28 september 2020) is the 91st birthday of Swar Samragyi Lata Mangeshkar (DoB 28 September 1929). We as part of HFM lovers extend her a very happy birthday and wish her many happy returns of the day.
She has been the most influential singer of HFM (and by extension all Indian film music).
A lot has been written on her career and her songs and her life. Instead of joining that race and repeating the already much repeated facts about her, I would take this occasion to start my discussion of her HF songs yearwise, right from the beginning. So one can see that it is going to be a long series, which may have started on her birthday and it will continue on and on, and each post will discuss one year. She has been around for more than six decades. It will take me at least 40 posts, may be more to discuss her songs over the years. I plan to publish one article every week. At this rate, this series could take upto one year. But then what is one year for this blog which is going on for more than 12 years !

In one recent article of Sudhir jee on his “This week that year” series, he wondered why my spree of posting one “Anmol Ghadi”(1946) song everyday had a break of one day and subsequently the final song got covered after break of one day. I do not have any recollections of those days, but I am certain about the fact that the concept of YIPPying all the songs of a movie had not entered my mind by that time. My attempt was to cover all songs that I could come across. I may have missed stumbling against the one remaining Anmol Ghadi song on that day whereas I could locate it the next day. That is the only plausible explanation that I can think of.

ik arz meri maan lo daftar ko jaana hai
mangal ka din hai aaj koi itwaar nahin hai
These two lines in the song “kyun garm sard hote ho takraar nahin hai” from ‘Chokori’ (1949) sung by Mohammed Rafi has made me to present this song which was not available on-line until SAREGAMA uploaded the audio clip of this rare song on one of the video sharing platforms in early 2019.

So we reach another blog century with this post. This century materializes in 39 days, which appears like a fast century vis a vis the previous eleven centuries that took an average of 61 days each. These eleven centuries were took nearly two years (from August 2018 till July 2020). That was the 30th century for the blog and that had been achieved in 17 days flat !. Eleven centuries (viz 20th century to 30th century were achieved at an average rate of 33 days per century.
