Yesterday (17 january 2016) was in some way a special day for music lovers, quite a few of them being regulars of this blog. As it is, Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopedia was planning to go to South, where he stayed at Hosur. Taking advantage of his presence there, a meeting of likeminded music lovers was organised in Bangalore. The lead in organising this meet was taken by Gajendra Khanna who decided to hold this meet in his residence. as it is, he is holding musical meets in his residence regularly and so he was quite an old hand in such matters.

It’s been a while since we had a song in this voice. A voice which momentarily transforms us to another world. A voice so gentle and sweet that we invariably pause, ponder and are awestruck by the rendering. The total numbers are in three digits only. The genres of songs are also very restricted. I think that I have got an unique song this time. This is a song from a film called Meri Asha-50. The song is sung by film comedian Agha aka Aghajaan Baig. I have never known that Agha had sung any song. Never came across any of his songs,nor read it in HFGK about his song, in his long career of almost 50+ years.

Today’s song is from the film Lajawab-50. It is sung by Anil Biswas, Lata and Binapani Mukherjee, with chorus. It is a lovely,rhythmatic,foot-tapping song and clearly shows the unmistakable stamp of the composer Anil Biswas. He was hailed as one of the most original, revolutionary and experimental composer, even dubbed as “The Bhishma Pitamaha” of HFM.
