I have so far discussed two songs from the movie “M S Dhoni the untold story”(2016). The first song appeared after about 20 minutes into the movie while the second song appeared after the next 20 minutes. So it was like clockwork- one song after every 20 minutes.

I am not one who can sit through a Hindi movie for its full duration now a days. Moreover, I cannot even bear to watch most new movies. There are exceptions of course. For instance, I liked “Lage Raho Munna Bhai”, “PK”, etc. I in fact have discussed a few songs from these movies in the blog as well, where I mentioned that I liked these movies.

The shelf life of a Hindi pop (also called Indipop) song is generally very short. But one that has smitten me seems to be an exception. I have been watching the video clip of the song over a year. The more I listened, more I was curious to know as to why I liked this pop song especially when I have not been a great admirer of such genre of songs.

Ganpati Bappa Morya!! One more Ganesh festival in the life of this blog. We have been having songs from bollywood movies posted in this blog every year. So why should this year be any different. Songs have become an integral part of Hindi films since the advent of talkies in 1931. In the early 1930s, most of the Hindi film songs were influenced by the Hindustani classical ragas. This was understandable as most of the music directors of that period had exposure to Hindustani classical music. However, from the 1940s, songs based on semi-classical genres such as Thumri, Dadra, Khayal and folk music began to playe a predominant role in Hindi film music. The impact of Begum Akhtar on film music was evident as even ghazals were sung in thumri format in the films. At the same period, Kolkata based music directors were greatly influenced by Rabindra Sangeet while composing Hindi and Bengali film songs.

Mumbai Mega Gangout part I

Regulars of this blog meeting with one another on a one to one basis has been going on from 2010 onwards. It first happened in Nagpur, when Raja ( my long time online acquintance since 2004) decided to pay a visit to Nagpur to meet me as well as another Nagpur based fellow cricket and HFM enthusiast. Friday, 29 october 2010 became the first occasion when I met a blog contributor and it was Raja, who also happened to be the first visitor, first commentor, first guest contributor etc etc of the blog. This meeting that lasted some three hours was a memorable occasion for me. I had mentioned this meeting in a writeup that I posted the next day.

Sometimes people end up giving really deep insights to you about yourself. But during the conversation, you do not grasp it and brush it off. This happened to me during my first jury at NID. First let me explain the concept of jury. Jury is what happens, when instead of exams, the college decides that a student should have only half an hour every semester to display every scrap of work they did for 4.5 months and justify that he/she did learn something. If one manages to do that, then they give you a decent grade and pass you for the semester. Nahi toh, Thakur toh giyo!
