Sureeli Suman – 19

In 1995, Gulshan Kumar, owner of ‘T Series’, under the name of ‘Super Cassettes Industries’ published this Devotional Album by Suman Kalyanpur titled ‘Hey Govind Hey Gopal’. Gulshan Kumar had many Music composers and Lyricists on his regular payroll. Like a factory these artists churned out songs after songs and they were stored as a bank of songs for any situations for whichever producer wanted them.

Hullo to all in atuldom
Recently I saw an ad in the newspapers which made me realise that there is something called the “World Music Day” and that it is held in about 120 countries. It is Fête de la Musique’ or Make Music Day or World Music Day.
Now whenever I come across such World or International things I have started reading about it from the (my) trusted source—Wikipedia. And I will say that most times it gives correct knowledge.

I have heard this song and I liked it. Of course I had no idea which movie it was from and who were the composer, lyricist, singer, actor etc. It turns out that the movie is called Criminal (1995) and it was a remake of some Telugu movie, and perhaps that too was called Criminal.
The song is quite hummable. Credit says singers are Kumar Shanu and Alka Yagnik. I can identify Kumar Shanu’s voice, It appears to me that he tried to sing this Hindi song with South Indian accent, trying to copy the voice of S. P. Balasubramaniam . No idea why he tried to do that. The female voice did not sound like Alka Yagnik by any stretch of imagination, so I checked and gathered that the voice belongs to K S Chitra.
