Today’s song is a duet from the film Wamiq Azra-1946.
Ask anyone to name a famous love pair and the answer would be Romeo and Juliet, Laila Majnu or Shirin Farhad. These are all lovebirds from foreign lands. In fact Romeo and Juliet never even existed, they are the fictional char acters from the drama “Romeo and Juliet” written by William Shakespeare in 1597 a.d. Layla-Majnun pair was from Arabia and Shirin and Khusro Farhad were from Persia or Iran. Likewise Wamiq and Azra were also from Persia.

Today’s song is from the film ‘Hatimtai ki Beti’ (1955).
When I was very young and had just started taking interest in reading books and seeing films, I always felt that HATIMTAI is a girl’s name. This was because “Tai” in Marathi, means Didi in Hindi. It was only after I read the book “Arabian Night stories”, that I was surprised that Hatimtai was a Male name !

This is a song from a Raj-Nargis film Bewafa-52 and it is sung by Talat Mahmood.
It is not very common that Talat sang for Raj Kapoor. So, in such films, we see other singers giving playback to Raj Kapoor, depending on the choice of the producer or director. Talat sang a total of ten songs for Raj Kapoor in 4 films, as following-

I think I am familiar with most movies starring Raj Kapoor and Nargis, but even I was stumped when I came across this movie called “Bewafaa” (1952). This movie is not all that well known, which means that this movie did not do all that well. That way, this movie suffered the same fate as “Aashinaa”, another Raj Kapoor-Nargis starrer.
