After a long gap, in which I discussed songs and films of the 1950’s for a few months, I am now returning to the decade of the 1940’s. I discussed songs from 25 films of the 1950’s with the last post coinciding with completion of my 8 years of writing posts on this popular Blog.

Today’s song is from a less known- rather an unknown- film, Adalat-1948. It was the first film with this title. This title was lated used by the more famous film Adalat-1958 and also in Adalat -1976.

“Adalat” (1948) was directed by Vasant Joglekar for Mangal Pictures Production, Bombay. The movie had Baburao Pendharkar, Shalini Devi, Jog Madgulkar, Sudha Apte, Saroj Borkar etc in it.

This is a brother-sister song about ‘bidaayi’ from the film the film ‘Adaalat (1976). Only one song from this film is posted in the blog i.e. the popular duet Ho tumse door rahke hamne jaana pyaar kya hai.

This picnic song from the film ‘ Adaalat ‘ (1958) is a duet of Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. This movie has two Rafi-Asha duets, one Lata-Asha duet and Asha-Geeta duet. These songs are already posted in the blog, so are the three famous ghazals by Lata Manageshkar. So this duet picnic songs is the last remaining song from this film.

In Bollywood movies, “Mujra” songs is one of a standard category of songs. Most people, including me, discuss such songs as a matter of course, without thinking much about this matter. But the songs of “Adalat” (1958), which are all “Mujra” songs force me to think about it.
