‘Afsaanaa’ (1966) was produced by Dilip Mukherjee under the banner of Devi Movietone and was directed by Brij Sadanah. The cast included Ashok Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Padmini, Helen, Jagdeep, Anwar Hussain, Jeevankala, Tuntun, Parshram, Ravikant etc. The film’s producer, Dilip Mukherjee was a well-known producer-director-writer-actor of Bengali films. This was the only Hindi film Dilip Mukherjee and his banner, Devi Movietone had produced.

“Afsaanaa” (1951) is a movie that had Ashok Kumar and Veena in lead roles.It also had Pran,Kuldeep Kaur,Jeewan, Cuckoo etc in it. This movie was a musical blockbuster and I have discussed as many as seven songs from this movie in the past.

“Afsaanaa” (1951) was a B R Chopra movie and it was one of the first lost and found movies in Hindi movie history. This movie, which was a huge hit during its time starred Ashok Kumar, Veena,Jeewan,Cuckoo ,Pran, Kuldeep Kaur etc.

“Abhi to main jawaan hoon” is a song that is mainly associated with Malika Pukhraj. But a song with similar lyrics was there in “Afsaanaa” (1951) as well and there it was sung by Lata.

When I was young, I disliked old songs, and I would only listen to new songs, which meant songs of 1970s. But now I cannot have enough of old songs, viz songs of 1950s and even earlier. In fact, I love the music of the songs in these songs.

Husnlal Bhagatram were perhaps the first music directors who formed a team and composed music by their combined names. Later on, their lead was taken by Shankar Jaikishan, and then by Kalyanji Anandji, Laxmikant Pyarelal etc. Incidentally, Bhagatram’s brother, called Pt Amarnath, was a music director too.
