‘ X ‘ as we all know is the 24th letter in the alphabetic order of the English Language. Over the years I have often heard the phrase ‘ angrez chale gaye aur yeh angrezi chhod gaye…… ‘ This was usually in response to someone saying either ”sorry’ or ‘thank you’. The aspersion on the whole language was cast as ‘sorry’ and ‘thank you’ seem more formal and trivial words, compared to our own ‘ shukriya ‘ and ‘ mu’aaf kijiye ‘ or ‘dhanyawad’ and ‘kshama kijiye’ .

Similarly, the alphabet ‘ X ‘ of the English language is surplus to requirement as far as Hindi /Urdu are concerned.

“Champakali” (1957) was a Filmistan Production. It was directed by Nandlal Jaswantlal. The movie had Bharat Bhushan, Suchitra Sen, Pran, Mubarak, Shobha Khote, S. L. Puri, Mumtaz Begum, Ram Avtaar etc in it.

Seven song of the film Sangeet Samrat Tansen (1962) are posted in the blog. This singular Rafi solo is the eighth song to appear. It seems to me that Bharat Bhooshan is in the title role. The song is the creation of lyricist Shailendra and Music Director S N Tripathi. But to elevate this song in a film based on a vocalist life, the onus rest heavily on Rafi Sahab. And the award goes to Mohammed Rafi Sahab. Not lyrical, not musical but a vocal beauty, this one.

‘Pooja’ (1954) is a social drama in a village setting. The film is produced under the banner of Verma Films, Bombay, and is produced and directed by Bhagwandas Verma. The main cast of actors includes Bharat Bhushan, Purnima, Om Prakash, Badri Prasad, Ulhas, Shakuntala, Heeralal, Raj Mehra, S Nazir and Jankidas etc. The film has nine songs in all, and the lyrics are shared by Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri. This particular song is from the pen of Shailendra. The music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.
