I have mentioned it many times that Chitragupta, despite his outstanding musical talent would not go out and socialise with big wigs of the industry and that is what prevented him from landing big banner movies. For instance, the first time he was introduced to raj Kapoor was in late 1980s by his sons Anand and Milind, and on meeting him, Raj Kapoor said that he was a big fan of Chitragupta and he would have loved to work with Chitragupta had he met him in their heydays.

In ancient days, leading a spartan life was considered desirable and virtuous and seeking a life of pleasures and luxury was considered improper and a sign of decadence. In Indian history, kings who indulged themselves in such activities were looked down upon. The word used for such undesirable activities was “Bhog-Vilaas” ( comfort and pleasure seeking). Yes, seeking a life of comfort was severely disapproved by the visionaries among ancients.

While posting a song of “Sati Savitri” (1964) I had remarked that there are certain value system (Sanskaar) that are difficult for westerners to comprehend. In the Indian value system, woman may be described as ardhaangini (better half) of her husband, but paradoxically, she is required to treat her husband as her God and a superior being, and she is required to regard herself an inferior being. Not very demcratic, but then these ancient scriptures were written in an entirely different era.

“Kan Kan Mein Bhagwaan” (1963) was a mythological movie, anda small budget movie.Mahipal and Anita Guha, the biggest stars of such movies, had played lead roles in this C grade movie.

Long ago, when I was a school kid, I was an avid radio listener. One of the radio programmes that I regularly listened to was “Vishesh Jaimala” broadcast on saturday evening (and repeated on sunday afternoon). This programme was presented by a celebrity from Bollywood, but sometimes celebrities from other fields were also invited to present the programme.
