Blog 10-Year Challenge (2011-2021) – Song No. 19
———————————————————————————–
This date ten years ago (viz 31 March 2011) was a thursday and a working day. On looking back at the posts in the blog, I notice that four songs from four different movies were covered on that day. It was slow going by the standards of the blog those days. The first post of the day appeared at 10:58 AM and the fourth and final post at 1:12 PM. So it appears that this day ten years ago was a day when I could not devote much time for blogging. My guess is that I was journeying on this day in the morning and I arrived at Nagpur (my base) in the morning at around 10 AM and that is when I started blogging for the day.

Blog post number Song Movie (Year) Remarks
3713 Jo dard banke zamaane pe chhaaye jaate hain Parbat Pe Apna Deraa(1944) Posted at 10:58 AM. 5 songs (out of 9) covered by now
3714 Tirulila Tirulila Tirulila la Daman(1951) Posted at 11:28 AM. 8 songs out of 10 covered by now.
3715 Nashe mein jo daulat ke ham dagmagaaye Sitaaraa(1955) Posted at 11:56 AM. 8 songs out of 10 covered by now
3716 Sune na koi man ki vyathhaa Subhadra Haran(1964) Debut song of the movie. Posted at 1:12 PM. Debut of the movie. One song out of 6 covered so far.

One can see that all four movies whose songs were covered on that day are unYIPPEED to this date and so they all are eligible for Blog Ten Year Challenge today.

Out of the four movies, “Subhadra Haran”(1964) is one movie which made its debut on that day ten years ago and that song remains the only song from the movie to be covered in the blog till noqw !

“Subhadra Haran”(1964) was produced by Homi Wadia and directed by Datta Dharmadhikari for Basant Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Jayshree Gadkar, Suryakant, Arun Sarnaayik, Shahu Modak, Chitra, Raja Nene, Aruna,Balakram,
Vasant Shinde, Ram Tipnis,Jayashankar Danave, Master Dattaram, Vinay Sukale, Neelam, Kumar Deeghe, Angrey, Gaaikwaad, Bare, Shantaaram, Takle, Purushottam, Korega,Yadav, Bismilla, Mittoo miyaan, Bhoobhiyaa, Sulochana, Meera, Lakshmi, Leela, Sudhar Karlekar, Madhu Apte, Vasant Bhagwat etc in it.

As mentioned above, the movie had six songs in it. One song has been covered so far.

Here is the second song from “Subhadra Haran”(1964) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Mahendra Kapoor. Saraswati Kumar Deepak is the lyricist. Music is composed by Prabhakar Jog.

The song is picturised on Jaayshree Gadkar and Suryakant, playing Subhadra and Arjun respectively in this movie based on a sub plot of Mahabharat.

Details of the movie as well as the lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

—————————————

In the mission of covering ‘movies with same title’ on the blog, today’s song introduces ‘Har Har Mahadev-1974’, which is making its debut on the blog today with this song. We already have a movie ‘Har Har Mahadev’ of the year ‘1950’ on the blog.

‘Har Har Mahadev-1974’ a ‘mythological movie’ was directed by Chandrakant for ‘Joy Films’. Chandrakant was also the producer of this movie. It had Dara Singh, Jayshree Gadkar, Padma Khanna, Uma, Aruna Irani, Sujata, Gopi Kishan, Satyajeet, Abhi Bhattacharya, Randhawa, Shahu Modak, Asit Sen, Babu Raje, Arvind Pandya, Azad, Master Tito, Suryakumar, Ratnamala, Himmat Singh Chauhan, Dilip Dutt, Vishwas Kunthe, Hercules, Polsan, Moolchand, Rajrani, Saudagar Singh, Jagdish Raj, V.Gopal, Pal Sharma, Radheshyam, Rinku, Narmada Shankar, Anil Kumar, Dhanraj Pehalwan, Minal Mehta, Uma Khosla, Manjiri Desai, Devyani Thakkar, Sarita Devi, Shri Bhagwan, Sitaram, Shery, Kedar Saigal, Thakur G.S. and others. Sumitra Devi made a special appearance in this movie.

Story of this movie was written by Pragji Dosa and dialogues were written by Ramesh Pande. Editing of this movie was done by Ram Khade and Vithoba Surve.

This movie had as many as seven songs in it written by Kavi Pradeep and music composed by Kalyanji-Anandji. Singers Lata Mangeshkar, Mahendra Kapoor, Aziz Nazan and Kanchan had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

This movie was passed by censor board on 22.08.1974.

Dara Singh played the role of Mahadev in this movie. Today 12th July 2020 is the eighth remembrance anniversary (19.11.1928- 12.07.2012) of this most loved personality of Indian Cinema.

He is mostly remembered and loved for the mythological character of ‘Hanuman’, he also played Bhagwan Shiv in some of the movies viz. ‘Tulsi Vivaah-1971’, ‘Hari Darshan-1972’, and ‘Har Har Mahadev-1974’ (as per information available on ‘wiki’).

Remembering him today on his Remembrance Day and paying our tributes to him with this song picturised on him where he as Mahadev is seen in his ‘dhyan mudra’ while Jayshree Gadkar as devi Parvati is also seen.

This song a ‘shiv stuti bhajan’ is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and on screen it is lip sync by Babu Raje (playing ‘Narad muni’ here) and another actor whom I am unable to identify. There are many other artists who are performing in this wonderful song.

Let us now enjoy this song written by Kavi Pradeep ji in this auspicious month of ‘shraavan’ which is already in progression in some parts of the country and about to begin in next week in other parts of the country.

With this song ‘Har Har Mahadev-1974’ makes its debut on the blog.

Missing Films of 1960s – 62
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Over a period of time now, more and more films and film songs are becoming available online. Earlier this week itself, Bakshi ji mentioned in one of our conversations that he is now downloading films right on to his smart phone from the internet, and watches them at his convenience. The smart phones are coming up with huge storage memories. The mobile phone service providers are coming up with plans that allow large data volumes to be downloaded. As per him, services like Jio are able to provide good bandwidth, and it does not take long to download a full film. This seems to be a good time for lovers of Hindi films and film music – just log on, do some search and one is able to find many items of interest. And to add, of course, that more and more people are now uploading films and songs online, and sharing with the world.

When I started this series, at the request of Katie Ben, for many episodes I was following the yearly sequence, as per the list worked out by her. In between, sometimes I would jump ahead for a special request. But the progression was linear more or less. Lately, I have been moving back and forth between the years, as I continue to either discover hitherto unavailable songs, or having acquired them from friends, I have uploaded them myself. Having reached up to the year 1967 with postings of songs of unrepresented films, I move back to 1965 again today.

The film being introduced today is ‘Gopal Krishna’. As the name suggests, this is a religious film, that highlights the life and times of Lord Krishna, when he descended upon this earth, as an incarnation for destroying the evil forces in this creation.

The film is produced under the banner of Chitrashala, Bombay and is directed by D Raman. The cast of actors is listed as Jaishri Gadkar, Prakash, Rajan Haksar, Sapru, SK Prem, Ratnamala, Mohan Choti, Mridula, Dalpat, Moni Chatterji, Sadhana Khote, Madhumati, Uma Khosla, Lalita Kumari, Saudagar Singh, KL Panda, and Pal Singh. From this list, I surmise that the lead role of Krishna is played by the person whose name is listed as ‘Prakash’. There are eight songs listed for this film. All the songs are from the pen of Bharat Vyas, and the music is composed by N Dutta.

This lovely song is rendered by Suman Kalyanpur. On screen this is performed by Jaishree Gadkar, playing the role of Radha ji, as she is serenading Krishna, role played by Prakash (I hope my guess is correct). The scenario is the groves by the banks of River Jamuna. Krishna is sitting beneath the ‘kadamb’ tree playing his flute, and Radha ji is going to the ‘panghat’ with a ‘matki’ to fetch water for home. This is the most typical scenario in the tales of the pastimes of Radha and Krishna. Their exchanges are being seen by their friends. The gopis accompanying Radha ji are watching from a distance and praising. So are the gwaala friends of Krishna, led by Mohan Choti.

View and enjoy this very auspicious episode from the tales of Shri Krishna.

Song – Teri Muraliya Meri Paayaliya, Donon Ka Kaisa Mel Re  (Gopal Krishna) (1965) Singer – Suman Kalyanpur, Lyrics – Bharat Vyas, MD – N Dutta

Lyrics

teri muraliya
meri paayaliya
donon ka kaisa mel re
dharti naache
gagan bhi naache
dekh ke preet ka khel re
teri muraliya
meri paayaliya

tere suron mein jaadu bhara hai
meri taal mein geet hai
tere suron mein jaadu bhara hai
meri taal mein geet hai
kya todegi isko duniya
janam janam ki preet hai
teri muraliya
meri paayaliya
donon ka kaisa mel re
dharti naache
gagan bhi naache
dekh ke preet ka khel re
teri muraliya
meri paayaliya

tere liye badnaam kiya mujhe
saare gokul gaaon ne
tere liye badnaam kiya mujhe
saare gokul gaaon ne
kadamb ke neeche
ghunghat kheenche
naachungi tere saamne
teri muraliya
meri paayaliya
donon ka kaisa mel re
dharti naache
gagan bhi naache
dekh ke preet ka khel re
teri muraliya
meri paayaliya

log kahen tu hai kaala kaanha
nazar na aaye rain mein
log kahen tu hai kaala kaanha
nazar na aaye rain mein
main to tumhen rakhungi kanhaiya
kajra bana ke nain mein
teri muraliya
meri paayaliya
donon ka kaisa mel re
dharti naache
gagan bhi naache
dekh ke preet ka khel re
teri muraliya
meri paayaliya

In our day to day life we face some or the other discomforting and problematic situations, most of which get sorted out over time. The end of such situations is the beginning of happiness.

One of the discomforting situations which I have started facing in the post- retirement years is that I suddenly remember the tune of a song which I had heard quite often in my younger days on the radio but I am not able to recall the wordings or other details. I become restless until I find the song. It is by chance that I get to listen to the song on YT or on the Blog after months. And the pleasure I get in solving this kind of ‘puzzle’ is akin to attaining nirvana.
