This festival is also one of the most popular festival in Hindi movies as it offers great opportunity for movie makers to show the lead actors and others letting their hairs down and singing and dancing rather more uninhibitedly than usual.

“Shabnam”(1949) is a movie starring Kamini Kaushal, Dilip Kumar, Cuckoo, Jeewan etc. This movie seems to have lots and lots of songs in it that get played in the movie one after the other. Of course, I have not seen this movie and my observation is based on the number of songs that this movie has. As it is, I have discussed four songs from this movie and there seems to be many more songs in this movie.

Most people are aware of the movie called “Nadiya Ke Paar” (1982) which was a Rajshree Productions movie. There was another movie of the same name that was released as far back as in 1948. This movie “Nadiya Ke Paar” (1948) was in fact a bigger budget movie and a mainstream movie unlike “Nadiya Ke Paar” (1982). “Nadiya Ke Paar” (1948) starred Dilip Kumar and Kamini Kaushal and by most indications, it was a commercial success.

The technology of recording Hindi movie songs in the earlier decades was not very advanced. It was not possible to use the same recording for both the movie as well as the record companies, so the same song was recorded twice- once for the movie sound track, and another time for the record company.

Movies with the title “Milan” seems to get produced every decade. I am aware of “Milan” (1967) and I also became aware of “Milan” (1958). Now it turns out that there was a movie of this name in 1946 too. This movie, “Milan” (1946) had Dilip Kumar, Ranjana, Meera Mishra etc in this movie.

By mid 1970s, Dilip Kumar had all but retired from acting. But Ramesh Sippy pursuaded him to come back from retirement and act again. This much awaited comeback vehicle of Dilip Kumar was “Shakti” (1982). In this movie, Dilip Kumar plays an upright police officer for whom his duty comes before his family.
