Readers of this blog are aware that this year is the ‘birth centenary year’ of the legendary singer Mukesh (22.07.1923 – 27.08.1976). Earlier we had a few posts on the blog for the birth centenary celebrations. When our respected Sudhir ji and Mahesh ji started presenting posts with Mukesh songs I was under the impression that there will be post on every day starting from 22nd July to 27th August (which is Mukesh’s Remembrance Day) since many Mukesh songs are yet to be posted here. That did not happen. But there were some Mukesh related posts till his birth anniversary …

Today’s song is a multi-singer song. It is from the 1976 released Madan Mohla produced and directed “Dus Numbri”. It had Hema Malini {who seemed to be favourite of all the heroes of the 50s & 60s and wanted a lease in their career 😉 } Manoj Kumar and a whole lot of Manoj Kumar-movie-regulars viz Premnath, Pran, Kamini Kaushal and Bindu. The movie was a musical with six songs.

There is a school of thought amongst music lovers that the voice of Manna Dey suited better for Raj Kapoor than Mukesh. While technically, there could be substance to the concept, it remains a fact that the empathy evolving from the voice of Mukesh and the emotion and expressions of Raj Kapoor’s acting on screen fitted to a T. No wonder RK upon hearing Mukesh’s demise in far off Detroit city commented that he had lost his soul. I am of the firm opinion that the voice of Mukesh on Raj Kapoor suited most aptly than the actor singing himself.
