There were two Hindi movies with the title “Yahudi Ki Ladki”. The first one was produced in 1933 and the other one was produced in 1957. As many as four songs from the 1933 movie has been discussed and none from the other movie of the same title.

Once again, apologies for another gap in communications from my side. On the previous Sunday, i.e. 6th May, Nalin ji presented his program ‘Yaadon Ka Safar’ here in Delhi. The program lasted for about four and half hours, with a break in between. The evening was a very nostalgic and emotional journey through the earlier decades of Hindi film and film music, and with the amount of details and anecdotes that Nalin ji carries in his memory, the program was also very informative.

“Shrimati 420″(1956), obviously a take on “Shri 420”, was a Sippy Films Production. It was produced and directed by G P Sippy. The movie had Johny walker, Meena Shorey, Om Prakash etc in it. Surprisingly enough, very little information is available on this movie. As far as I can see, only the names of these three actors are known. And to add to the confusion, various “knowledgeable” sites cannot even agree on the music director of this movie. Some sites mention N Datta as the music director, whereas other sites mention O P Nayyar as the music director. I request our knowledeable readers to throw more light on this movie as well as the music director.

The tribulations of life keep jumping from one whirlwind to another. Here is a bit of information that I should have shared on the blog some time back. So there is this loosely knit group of music lovers in Delhi, and they are planning a year long stint of programs to celebrate the 100th year of Indian Cinema.

The days of comedians having a special role with well defined characters and a pivotal role in the main story of the film or parallel story were well and truly over by early 70’s. This is especially true about actors like Mehmood and Johnny Walker. They had a meaty role as well a heroine to sing songs with. One or two songs were a must for them in every film they starred. I really think there should a separate tag of category for this extinct species of comic actor. A tag for “Mehmood song” and “Johnny walker song” will not look out of place in a blog like this.
