In the good old days of radio, there often used to arise, a situation when one would like a song, but would miss the announcement of the name of the film. In such cases, one had to wait for the song to be played again. Now with the advent of internet, things have become much simpler where you can actually search, download, store and listen to a particular song often.

The other day we discussed the fact that we had 400 songs of Madan Mohan in the blog and now only about 200 odd more songs composed by him are left to be discussed. At that time I could not help but remember that over 400 S D Burman songs were also discussed in the blog and in his case even lesser number of songs were left to be discussed. We in fact have 485 S D Burman compositions in the blog ! The total number of S D Burman compositions in Hindi movies is of the order of 650, and so only about 170 odd songs composed by the maestro remain to be covered in the blog.

The first bhajan from film ‘ Pawanputra Hanuman’-57 was posted on 24th may. Today we will enjoy yet another melodious bhajan from this film, this time sung by the great Manna Dey. In hindi films, bhajans sung by Mohd.Rafi, Hemant Kumar and Manna Dey were very popular. Not that other singers did not sing any bhajan- even G.M.Durrani has sung a bhajan with few Sanskrit lines in the beginning, for the film Veer Arjun-52. If possible, I wish to post that bhajan also here, in future sometime.

Raas Garba, Ganesh Utsav, Diwali celebrations and Indian Calendar New Year days in respective regions are no more a matter of Religion by now. They have become the cultural heritage of the country. A good example is Holi or lighting done on Deepavali or touching the feet of the elders…all these constitute Culture, though its roots are traceable to religion.
