In about mid-1940s, there was a demand for dancers in Hindi films following the success of dancers like Azurie and Cuckoo. The demand for dancers can be gauged from the fact that during 1945-50, Cuckoo worked in about 75 films of which she did as many as 34 films in 1950 alone. This ‘demand-supply’ mismatch for dancers led to the entry of new dancers in the Hindi film industry such as Mohana, Helen, Sheila Vaz, Roopmala, Kanchanmala, Kumkum etc during the late 40s and early 50s. One of the lesser known dancers who made a entry into this category during this period was Heera Sawant.

Missing Films of 1960s – 16
– – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Obscure films and obscure artists – this arena is a goldmine for discovering wonderful gems; gems that have been unheard, or forgotten and buried under the sands of time. I was not even aware of the film ‘Private Detective’ from 1962, till I saw it listed in the homework assignment given to me by Khyati Ben.

Aaye Bahaar Ban Ke
Lubha Kar Chale Gaye. . .
The history of film industry is abundant with tales of stars that appeared on the horizon, briskly ascended the popularity curve, and then either rapidly descended the other side, or simply faded away, with equal haste. Some of these tales have very poignant and depressing endings. And the sad part is that many such artists and performers have simply dissolved into the oblivion of time. For many of them, very little biographical information is available. It is as if the history itself is bent upon erasing all memories of such luckless stars.

Today (17 octobr 2014) is the birth anniversary of Simi Garewal (DoB 17 october 1947). If there is one person who can be described to be an ageless wonder then it has to be her. She has not changed much in appearance for over 50 years right from the time she made her debut in Hindi movies in 1962.

“Raaz Ki Baat” (1970) is quite an obscure movie and hardly any details are known about this movie. Even its year of release is not known for sure. it is a 1962 movie if IMDB is to be believed whereas anothwr source puts the year of release to 1970. I have gone by the year of 1970.
