Early sixties, and a new kid on the block is trying to catch attention with the clarion call “Banda Parwar, Thhaam Lo Jigar” (‘Phir Wohi Dil Layaa Hoon’ (1963)). Catapulting directly into the top bracket of leading roles, no one can say that Joy Mukherjee had a dearth of roles or big name pictures. The young lad was very handsome, with an open smiling face, and had histrionic talent also. And as is evident from the roles in the first decade of his career, he had lots of energy and had a lots of zeal. Btw, the song I mentioned in this paragraph, well it is not on this blog yet. (Hint, hint. :))

The last few days have seen not one but two artists of the golden era departing from our midst. Music director Ravi left us one day before Holi and Joy Mujherji one day after holi. We, who in this blog discuss the songs of the golden era on a daily basis, are so familiar with the artists involved in these songs that they feel like close acquaintances. So any living artist breathing his/her last comes as a shock to us, even when it is well known that death is inevitable for everyone.

During late 1950s, Shashdhar Mukherji and Agha Kashmiri were discussing the next movie of Fimalaya in the formers residence. Shashdhar Mukherji wanted to sign up Shammi Kapoor, but Agha Hashra Kashmiri pointed at the youngster arriving at the home and told Shashdhar Mukherji-“Here is the hero of your movie”. That younster of none other than Joy Mukherji, Shashdhar Mukherji’s son. Shashdhar Mukherji was skeptical but he entrusted the job of grooming Joy Mukherji as a hero on Kashmiri. The movie called “Love in Shimla” (1960) was shot and the movie succeeded at the box office.

Continuing on the sojourn re-discovering and enjoying once again, the melodies created by N Dutta. Here is a lovely piano song, an expression of love and gratitude towards the loved one. On screen the song is performed by Joy Mukherjee playing the piano and singing to Komal, his lady love.

“Bahu Beti” (1965) was a movie produced by Shatrujit films and directed by T Prakash Rao. The movie was on a progressive theme, viz widow re marriage. The movie had actors like Ashok Kumar, Mala Sinha, Joy Mukherjee, Ashish Kumar, Mumtaz, Achla Sachdev, Mukri, Dhumal, Mehmood etc in it.

When I take a look at the list of movies whose songs have figured in this blog, I find that just over 1800 movies are represented in the blog. Most of these movies date from 1930s upto 1980s, during which time about 5600 Hindi movies got censors certificate. So roughly speaking about one third of all released movies till 1980s are represented in this blog.

“Ek Musaafir Ek Haseena” (1962) is a Filmalaya productions movie. It was directed by Raj Khosla. The star cast included Joy Mukherji, Sadhana, Dhumal, Rajendranath, Kamal Kapoor, Siddhu, Jagdish Raaj, Sulochana Chatterji, Chaman Puri, Shyam Chatterji, Neera Sameer, Gyani, Malika etc.
