Most songs discussed in this blog are movie songs which were included in the movie when that movie was released. But there are some cases in which songs, even though they were recorded as part of the movie ended up getting excluded from the movie for one reason or the other. In some cases, the movie makers decided to exclude the song, in some cases, censors ordered the exclusion of the song, and in one case, this was done one week after the movie was released !

This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

It has been variously said that there is a song in Hindi movies for practically any occasion, any situation, any profession, in short, there is a song for probably just anything. One just has to look for it long enough. The list of categories of songs on this blog itself is evidence that there are absolutely zany and unthinkable situations for which there are songs in Hindi movies. So, is there a song for cleaning dishes? I am sure there are more than one song in domestic or business situations wherein dishes are being cleaned with music and singing. Most people will agree that one Priya Rajwansh is more than enough for one movie. But Chetan Anand obviously did not think so. In “Hindustan Ki Kasam” (1973), she plays double role. I became aware of the movie “Heer Ranjha” (1970) in 1974, while going through movie magazines, which incidentally were supposed to be out of bounds for school kids barely in their teens. 🙂 But I was a kid who loved reading all kinds of publications, including screenplays of movies too. Yes, those days screenplays of movies used to get published too. I read screenplays of “Bobby” (1973) and “Aasheerwaad” (1968). I never watched these movies and I never thought that I missed anything by not watching them, that is how vivid the screenplays used to be.

“Madhosh” (1951) has one hero (Manhar Desai) and two heroines (Meena Kumari and Usha Kiran). In this movie, Manhar Desai got to lip sync in the voice of Talat Mehmood. The two leading ladies, who was seen to romance the same hero, were also made to lip sync in the same voice, viz that of Lata.
