Songs and dances play a very important role in Hindi movies. In olden days, lead actors were needed to sing and dance. Once playback singing began, actors were thankfully no longer required to sing their own songs, but they were still required to dance. That is especially true for actresses and proficiency in dancing was an important skill for them.

It may be unimaginable today for the present generation, but when India became independent over six decades ago, the country was industrially undeveloped and there was hardly any infrastructure to speak of. Indian leadership of that time decided that India needed to adopt the Soviet Union model of planned economy for nation building. Accordingly, there used to be five year plans those days and based on the decisions taken for these five year plans, various infrastructure projects were undertaken.

I came across a veritable gem today, that I had once heard many many years ago; I had no info about this song, just remembered the tune and some words, that would sometimes just come up in my mind by themselves and I would hum them, always longing to hear this song again. And today, while searching for something else, I accidentally bumped into this old long lost friend of mine.

When I had begun this blog, my grand vision was to discuss 2500 songs. I had thought that by that time I would have discussed all the Hindi movie songs that are worth discussing. When I finally reached that magic figure (on 29 may 2010), I found that I had just scratched the surface, as far as discussing the great Hindi movie songs was concerned and that many great songs were not yet discussed.
