This song is from a very old movie called “Dil Ki Rani” (1947). Most people involved in the creation of this song are now household names, but at the time of creation of this song, they were newcomers. In fact the names by which they were then known are not the names by which they are known today.

Sajjad Hussain was a highly talented music director who enjoyed great reputation for his music among his peers. But his inter personal relationships left a lot to be desired, especially when it came to his relations with influential people. As a result, he got to work as a music director in very few movies and the number of songs that he composed add up to barely a hundred songs or so.

When I watch many movie titles and story lines of old movies, I notice that many of them could not be made today because they would be regarded as politically incorrect in these days of being politically correct. I do not think we can have songs mentioning Bombay, Madras etc nor can we describe people as Junglee, blind, langdaa etc without invoking the wrath of some group of people or the other.

A lot of old songs from the golden era of Bollywood music were created by lyricists and Music directors who went on to become legends. But they were not the only ones who were creating great music. There were others who were just as talented but who got limited opportunities to show their talent.
