“Barsaat Ki Raat” (1960) was a fantastic musical blockbuster and all its songs have gone on to become timeless classics. What amazing songs this movie had !
I have posted a few songs from this movie, but I need to post all the songs from this movie.
Here is a lovely Rafi solo from this movie. It is picturised on Bharat Bhooshan, who sings this song in a function. Madhubala is also seated among the audience.
Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist and Roshan composed the music.
Rafi, Sahir and Roshan- all of them were at the peak of their considerable prowesses and that shows in this song, or for that matter in all the songs of this movie. This song is a gem indeed.

Song-Maine shayad tumhen pahle bhi kahin dekha hai (Barsaat ki raat) (1960) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics- Sahir Ludhianvi, MD- Roshan
Lyrics
hmm
maine shaayad tumhen pahle bhi kahin dekhaa hai
maine shaayad tumhen
maine shaayad tumhen pahle bhi kahin dekhaa hai
maine shaayad tumhen
ajnabi si ho magar ghair nahin lagti ho
waham se bhi jo ho naazuk wo yakeen lagti ho
haay ye phool saa chehraa ye ghaneri zulfen
mere sheron se bhi tum mujhko haseen lagti ho
maine shaayad tumhen
dekhkar tumko kisi raat ki yaad aati hai
ek khaamosh mulaaqaat ki yaad aati hai
zehan mein husn ki thandak kaa asar jagataa hai
aanch deti huyi barsaat ki yaad aati hai
maine shaayad tumhen pahle bhi kahin dekhaa hai
maine shaayad tumhen
jiski palken meri aankhon pe jhuki rahti hain
tum wahi mere khayaalon ki pari ho ki nahin
kahin pahle ki tarah phir to na kho jaaogi
jo hameshaa ke liye ho wo khushi ho ki nahin
maine shaayad tumhen pahle bhi kahin dekhaa hai
maine shaayad tumhen
Thanks, Atul, for posting this lovely song by Rafi saab.
Like you say, Rafi saab, Sahir and Roshan combo – can’t get much better than this. This movie has some of the best songs ever in Hindi cinema.
Btw, one small comment :
Your text says “jahaan mein husn ki thandak”…I think it should be “zehen mein husn ki thandak”.
And in the next sentence should it be “aanch deti hui” or “aaj deti hui” ?
Thanks for pointing out the corrections, Raja. I too had noticed them but forgot to correct that, thanks to my absent mindedness. Sometimes I even forget to provide the link in my absent mindedness. So this lapse was minor in comparison. 😉
Thanx to atul for the complete lyrics of the song. Just one correction: I think it should read “aanch dethi huyee barsaat ki barsaat ki yaad aati hai” not aaj deti huyee in the second stanza
this song is not only a song but also a voice of heart which has mentioned about beauty & all song-words reminde us about a lover’s feelings , such song no-one can sing & write & make singing
