This is a very high average, which I feel many leading stars also must have found difficult to achieve for successive years. There must be very few to get this number. In the year 1955 alone his 17 films were running at a time in theatres ! In the period 1970 to 1989 he did only 42 films, which averages to almost just 2 films a year.

Charlie became indispensable parts of films being produced those days.

In our film industry, there were two types of actors. One-who were lucky and did not have to struggle at all to become successful as a Hero and Two-those who had to struggle hard to be a hero and successful. We are NOT talking about actors like Raj Kapoor, Shammi or Shashi kapoor or R D Burman, for whom already there was a base made by their fathers in the industry facilitating their acceptance and opportunities. However there are examples like Mehmood -son of a successful actor Mumtaz Ali and some other star sons who had to struggle hard to create their own space in the industry.

———————————————

After Partition, there was a rush to migrate to Pakistan and artists continued to shift there from 47 to almost 1950. Some artistes like Noorjehan left immediately. The conditions in Lahore and Karachi had stabilised considerably for film making and lots of opportunities existed for film artistes there by mid 50s. That led to a second wave of migration to Pakistan at that time. Those who had continued in India completed their assignments here and went to Pakistan.
