Today’s song is a Parody song from film Phoolwari-46. It is sung by Mohantara Talpade. Jayashree T and Meena T were her brother’s daughters, I believe. Mohantara was a major female playback singer in the 40s. Starting with film Mamaji-42,she sang 117 songs in 54 films, till Inaam-55. Though she got married in 1950 to Dr. Ajinkya, she continued with using her maiden name to avoid confusion. Mohantara was a popular Bhavgeet and film singer in Marathi also.

In India, importance is rarely given to history and to historical personalities born and bred in the local soil. The so called ‘ Historical Films’ made here are mostly on Mughal Kings or other invaders like Sikander or Changez Khan etc, who can not be called the sons of soil. Many of them came from out of India, stayed here till they benefited and left when they finished looting India. With the advent of talkies in 1931, many new actors joined the Hindi film industry in the 1930s in addition to those who had switched over from silent films. While some actors became successful and remained active in the film industry for a long time, an overwhelming majority of actors could not be sustained for longer period in the film industry. Within this category, there were some actors who became successful in their initial stages of the filmy career, but lost the momentum of success in their later stage. While they remained active in the film industry for reasonable period, they went into oblivion and thus forgotten after the end of their filmy career.
