I have no idea when the three letter abbreviation (TLA) called CID came into existence. But this TLA certainly caught the fancy of the public. In the mind of the aam janta, CID means something mysterious, bordering on almost supernatural. As a kid, when I asked my elders what was CID, I was given a highly flattering idea of what a CID was. A CID is a master of disguise. “He could be with you, looking like a normal person, but you would not be able to guess that he is CID”- I was told. I would look around me. Finding no one else with me, I would suspect that elder to be CID. But then I was told that CID are there to investigate crimes. Since I was not a criminal, so I would give that elder a clean chit.

Modern day TV watchers are familiar with Ekta Kapoor’s (Jeetendra’s daughter) TV serials. No, I am not talking about their content (which is trashy in any case) but about their titles. All of these titles have to start with “K”. Even where there is no scope for the letter “K” in the beginning of the title, this letter is somehow made to appear in the beginning of the title. If she decides to make a serial on “Atul’s blog”, then it would be called “Kahaani Atul’s blog ki” or ” Kyunki Atul ka bhi ek blog hai”.

When one watches old Bollywood movies, one notices that people went about their lives in a laid back and relaxed manner. A typical girl would go to school/ college and while at home she would learn knitting/ cooking etc from her mother. She would also learn singing/ dancing from a tutor who would come to her home to teach her these arts. The girl would display her newly acquired prowess of singing / dancing in front of guests , parents and her guru.

When I watch many movie titles and story lines of old movies, I notice that many of them could not be made today because they would be regarded as politically incorrect in these days of being politically correct. I do not think we can have songs mentioning Bombay, Madras etc nor can we describe people as Junglee, blind, langdaa etc without invoking the wrath of some group of people or the other.

” This song is like a whiff of cool breeze, or one can describe it like sea waves continuing to follow one after another. The way he has composed it is an object lesson in music composition..” It is Anil Biswas waxing eloquent about this composition of Sajjad Hussain in a radio programme.
