Being a music lover in the past was not as easy as it is today. Music was not as easily accessible to people as it is today. For most people, radio was the most affordable means of listening to music. And as one can guess, one could only listen to songs that the radio stations decided to play at their own nominated times. One could have record players too, but they were expensive and only the most well off people could afford them.

“Ham Ek Hain” (1946) as the name suggests, was a movie on the theme of national unity. Durga Khote, in addition to her own biological son, also adopts two more boys and a girl of different religions and communities and brings them up as her own children, while letting them follow their respective religions. And all these children fall in love with persons of the relevant religious faiths and marry them with full parental approval. A very progressive movie indeed.:) Now we know the source of inspiration for Manmohan Desai’s “Amar Akbar Anthony”. 🙂
