“Kasturi” (1954) was a Sargam Pictures presentation. This movie was directed by someone called Rajendra Kumar (not the movie actor I am sure). The “star” cast of this movie had Sajjan, Samson, Nimmi, Bipin Gupta, Anand Prasad, Alka etc in it.

1950s saw a trend of suspense movies in Hndi movies. These movies were obviously inspired by Western movies of the same genre. Some nice suspense movies got made in that decade.
Hindi suspense movies had one thing that was missing in Western suspense movies, viz songs. 😀 And seeing what great musical talents Hindi movies had at that disposal, music lovers have been left with a rich legacy of great songs from such movies.

It is a kind of song that provides your brain with a sort of mental massage to your soul when you decide to listen to it. Talat Mahmood’s voice had that soft silken quality. These kinds of song do not rely upon its picturisation to win you over. The voice is enough to do that. In the past 56 odd years that this song is in existence, it has built up a solid fan base for itself.

It is a song from Malhaar (1951) when all the persons involved in the creation of this song were new in Bollywood industry. Fresh voices of Lata and Mukesh, who were finding their feet in Bollywood sing under the baton of Roshan, himself trying to establish himself as a music director and Shyamlal, who was writing his first lyrics in 5 years. Yes, Shyamlal was the real name of the lyricist who later became better known as Indeewar.
