Old age too has some advantages. You have seen or done something long long ago, which is a part of History or a matter of wonder and awe for the younger generation. The cicumstances and social set up has undergone a sea change in the last 50-60 years. As such this period is equal to 2-3 generations(30 years=1 generation) and no wonder if things are topsy-turvy and 180 degrees changes have taken place.

Plagiarism, or what is euphemistically called “taking inspiration” is nothing new for hindi movies. We have instances of movies which have been lifted frame by frame from movies from some other countries, and that too without acknowleding the fact. And in case people come to know about such acts, the makers of the plagiarised movie are often quite defiant about it and refuse to acknowledge the fact.

When I was a pre teen kid during late 1960s and early 1970s, I once read a funny poem in the Hindi magazine “Parag”. It went
Deewaaron pe lagi huyi thhi filmy posteron ki qataar
“Hum Hindustani”, “Badtameez”, Aawaara”, “Junglee”, “Jaanwar” aur “Ganwaar” !

Imagine that you reached someplace where a song is playing, probably on a radio. But unfortunately it seems you have missed almost the entire song. What you hear as you get into listening range is just the last one or two lines playing. The words you hear do not seem to be part of the main song lyrics. And the words you hear do not seem to make a coherent sentence. You may just skip the thought and move on. Or if you are more Hindi-film-music inclined, you would start to wonder what the song was and who would have been the singer of this song, of which you have heard just a snippet.
