The Wonderful Sounds of 1930s – 7
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

If this voice sounds familiar, that is because we have heard him before on this blog.  The earlier posted song is also a delightful rendition – “Bhar Bhar Ke Jaam Pilaa De Bahaar Aayi” from the film ‘Miss Frontier Mail’ (1936).  The singer is Basheer Ahmed Khan, also known as Basheer Qawwaal.  This song today is from a very obscure and almost unheard film from 1937 – ‘His Highness’.  As I am browsing the songs from 1930s in my collection, I am finding excellent gems that have been unheard of for decades.  Wonderful pieces of music that are excellent compositions of excellent verses.  The obscurity can be gauged from the fact that almost no information is available about the film, or the artists that have contributed to create this, and other such obscure and rare gems.

The film gained significance, as for the title it used the term Ram Rajya (Rule of Rama), which Mahatma Gandhiji often used to define democratic-righteous rule during the Indian independence struggle. Incidently, it was the only film Gandhiji ever saw. Kanu Desai’s art direction was very much appreciated, equally by the Critics and masses.

BHAJAN MALA – GOLDEN 50s…(Pushp-12….Last of the series)

So, we are ending this Bhajan series today with the most appropriate and suitable Bhajan for the occasion, from the film- Mahapooja-54. The bhajan is sung by Amirbai Karnataki and Tara Harish-both in their last phase of the career. This is a Bhajan-almost an Aarati, but not exactly-in praise of Shri Satyanarayan Swami.

Nainon se naina milaa ke – Song no. 7
—————————————-

Song no. 7 is once again a duet. I am not yet done with the duets from Rafi excel sheet. I was in two minds whether to have songs with ‘Ankhen’ ‘nigaahen’ and ‘nazaren’ also which match the theme. But the songs that have come my way having the ‘naina’ or ‘nainon’ are so endearing and similar yet with different flavour, that my hands are quite full.
