Muft huye badnaam kisi se haaye dil ko lagaake

Posted on: December 29, 2008

Ajit made his mark as a villain, but he had acted as a hero too in his earlier movies. And as heroes tend to do, Ajit would sing songs on the screen too.

Most of these songs may be as unknown today as the movies in which Ajit acted as the hero. But there are exceptions also. There are a few songs that became popular and are popular even today.

Perhaps the most memorable song of them all was from the movie “baarat” (1960). This was a C grade movie, and music directors like S N Tripathi and Chitragupta were the big name music directors for such movies. These C grade movies as well as songs of such movies tended to be forgettable. But on some rare occasions, the music would break through and compete even with A category songs. This song was one of those rare songs.

Song- Muft huye badnaam (Baaraat) (1960) Singer- Mukesh, Lyrics- Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD- Chitragupta

Lyrics

muft huye badanaam,
kisi se haay dil ko lagaa ke
muft huye badnaam
jeenaa huaa iljaam
kisi pe haay dil ko lagaa ke
muft huye badnaam

gaye armaan leke, lute lute aate hain
log jahaan mein kaise dil ko lagaate hain
gaye armaan leke, lute lute aate hain
log jahaan mein kaise dil ko lagaate hain
dil ko lagaate hain, apnaa banaate hain
ham to phire naakaam
ham to phire naakaam
kisi pe haay dil ko lagaa ke
muft huye badnaam
kisi se haay dil ko lagaa ke
muft huye badnaam

samjhe the saath degaa, kisikaa suhaanaa gham
khuli jo nazar ko dekhaa, tanhaa khade hain ham
samjhe the saath degaa, kisikaa suhaanaa gham
khuli jo nazar ko dekhaa, tanhaa khade hain ham
tanhaa khade hain ham
din bhi rahaa hai kam
raste mein ho gayi shaam
mufta huye badnaam
raste mein ho gayi shaam
raste mein ho gayi shaam
kisi pe haay dil ko lagaa ke
muft huye badanaam

My very favorite Ajit-as-hero song is from 1954’s Nastik: “Kitna Badal Gaya Insaan”…so beautiful, and so sad.

@ Atul ji – thanks for this rare gem. I like this song very much, and was not aware that onscreen it is performed by Ajit. Have this in both – an album of Chitragupta ji and album of Mukesh ji.
