Maathe pe lagaaike bindiya…Angnaa aayenge sanwariya

Posted on: September 18, 2008

Another rare gem. This song from Doosra Aadmi is sung by comedian Deven Verma on himself, and the female voice is Pamela Chopra’s who was the wife of Yash Chopra, the maker of this movie.

The lyrics has a word like Sanwariya mentioned prominently. And guess what, Ranbir Kapoor whose debut movie was called “Sanwariya” was not born then, but one can clearly see Ranbir Kapoor connection in this song. His mother and father play the married couple in this song, as they did in many movies together at that time.

Deven Verma, mamaji of Neetu Singh in this movie sings this song so nicely. It was a cute song to listen to during that time. In fact, for a long time, I thought that the lyrics was “ab na aayenge sanwariya”, instead of “angna aayenge sanwariya”.

The song picturisation shows a lower middle class party going on, where a lady is so embarrased when asked to dance, and she runs away hiding her face between her palms after doing a few jigs or two. Neetu Singh, looking so fetching in her red dress has her mind elsewhere, waiting for Rishi Kapoor who is nowhere in sight. And her mami forces her to dance, even though she is not in the proper frame of mind.

A cute song, indeed. Both the part time singers sing this song like fulltime professional singers. They both show nice ranges in their voices. I wonder why both of them did not sing more. Kudos to Rajesh Roshan for this song.

Song- Angna aayenge sanwariya…angnaa aayenge saanwariyaa (Doosra aadmi) ( 1977 ) Singer-Deven Verma, Pamela Chopra, Lyrics- Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD- Rajesh Roshan

the song shows Satyen Kappu who is Rishi Kapoor’s dad in this, Gita Siddharath who is Neetu’s mami,
and the lady in the red dress with head band is actress Sheetal i think.
of course i call upon Shri. Prakashchandraji to confirm this.

sorry for the late response,
you are right madam ji the girl with head band in red dress is SHEETAL
&
the lady with sitar in hand(wearing yellow saree)later dances with Deven verma is BINA SHYAM aka Beena aka Bina(who also acted in Smita Patil`s Bazaar and in vinod khanna`s Jail Yatra and also in Rajshree`s Nadiya ke paar)(always confused with Pradeep Kumar`s daughter Beena Bannerjee aka Beena)
