There is little doubt that this movie “Phir Wohi Dil Laaya hoon” is known mainly for its music. I have already posted a song from this movie. But this was a musical extravaganza so I cannot help but post more songs from this movie. O P Nayyar, who ruled the roost in 1950s as a music director proved with this movie that he was capable of churning out good music in 1960s too.
I have mentioned that O P Nayyar’s typical music reminds me of a horsedriven carriage ( tonga) galloping away. The audio of this song too paints the same picture in my mind’s eye. When I saw the video, I found that I was off the target by a long way. The picturisation is nowhere as racy as the tune. The hero, Joy Mukherjee just walks leisurely holding a guitar over his shoulder like a cricket bat or a shovel. Come on, shake your body Shammi Kapoor style to do justice to the catchy tune. But no, Joy Mukherjee, despite being a Shammi clone just would not break into a jig in this song. How I was reminded of “Kashmir ki Kali” songs, viz “Ye chand sa roshan chehra”, composed by the same music director, but picturised on Shammi Kapoor. That is how such songs need to be picturised, for God’s sake.
I say it because the song was clearly picturised on the same location as “Kashmir ki Kali” viz the Dal lake and thereabouts.
Of course, I cannot fault the song. Rafi sings Majrooh Sultanpuri’s lyrics with verve and enthusism. If one just listens to the song without watching the video, one is bound to love this song.

What a lovely song by Mohd Rafi. He is literally GOD.
