Dheere chal dheere chal ae bheegi hawa

Posted on: December 11, 2008

I have posted quite a few lullabies. They are typically sung by females for small kids. But trust Shammi Kapoor to sing a lullaby for his girlfriend ! Yes, this is what he does in this movie called “Boyfriend”.

Now let us see how Shammi Kapoor goes about the task. He obviously has the lullaby “nanhi kali sone chali hawa dheere aana” as his template. So he improvises and sings “dheere chal dheere chal ae bheegi hawa”.

Unlike the Geeta Dutt lullaby, which would have a becalming effect on a “nanhi kali”, Shammi Kapoor’s attempt may not have had the same effect on the not so nanhi kali that is Madhubala. In any case Madhubala is wide awake and is just pretending to be asleep. She watches Shammi Kapoor’s antics from the corners of her eyes when Shammi Kapoor is not looking. The song is sung vigourously enough for the “hawa” to decide not to “chal ” “dheere”.

What do you mean, it is not a lullaby ? Then what is it, a love song ? Or perhaps a comedy song. I would not know, seeing that I have not watched the movie. But I know that Madhubala’s mischievous smile while pretending to be asleep is worth going miles`to see. And I must say that Shammi Kapoor’s attempt at lullaby ( I will treat it as lullaby till I am given conclusive proof to the contrary) is hilarious.

Lyrics

dheere chal
dheere chal ai bheegi hawaa
ke mere bulbul ki hai neend jawaan
ke kahin laage naa kisi ki use badnazar
ke meethe sapnon mein khoyi hai wo bekhabar
ke dheere chal dheere chal ai bheegi hawaa
ke mere bulbul ki hai neend jawaan
ke kahin laage naa kisi ki use badnazar
ke meethe sapnon mein khoyi hai wo bekhabar
ke dheere chal dheere chal ai bheegi hawaa
ke dheere chal

chehraa kahin hai zulfen kahin hain
hosh kahaan hai bhalaa is bahaar mein
is bahaar mein
kaliyon se kah de aaj na chitken
champaakali hai soyi intzaar mein
intzaar mein
are ho kitni hai dilkashi
chhaayi hai bekhudi haay meri bebasi
ke dheere chal dheere chalai ai bheegi hawaa
ke mere bulbul ki hai neend jawaan
ke kahin laage naa kisi ki use badnazar
ke meethe sapnon mein khoyi hai wo bekhabar
ke dheere chal dheere chal ai bheegi hawaa
ke dheere chal

pyaar kaa bhanwraa kahtaa hai tujhse
aisi fizaa mein koyi raagini na gaa
raagini na gaa
neend ke saagar toot na jaayen
meri qasam tujhe shor na machaa
shor na machaa
are ho baadal bade bade
pahre pe hain khade dil bhi to kyaa kare
ke dheere chal dheere chal ai bheegi hawaa
ke mere bulbul ki hai neend jawaan
ke kahin laage naa kisi ki use badnazar
ke meethe sapnon mein khoyi hai wo bekhabar
ke dheere chal dheere chal ai bheegi hawaa
ke dheere chal

maujen ruki hain shaakhen jhukin hain
kaise sunaaye koyi dil ke saaz ko
dil ke saaz ko
jab wo jagegi kismat jagegi
phir main kahoonga
mere dil ke raaz ko
dil ke raaz ko
are ho aakaash choom loongaa
bin piye jhoom loonga
dil use nazar doongaa
ke dheere chal dheere chal ai bheegi hawaa
ke mere bulbul ki hai neend jawaan
ke kahin laage naa kisi ki use badnazar
ke meethe sapnon mein khoyi hai wo bekhabar
ke dheere chal dheere chal ai bheegi hawaa
ke mere bulbul ki hai neend jawaan
ke kahin laage naa kisi ki use badnazar
ke meethe sapnon mein khoyi hai wo bekhabar
ke dheere chal dheere chal ai bheegi hawaa
ke dheere chal

I naturally love this song 🙂 My favorite from this film is the other one he sings while watching Madhubala sleep, “Salaam aapki meethi”…so beautiful and romantic!

Thanks Atul, for posting this farmaish of mine.
I love Shammi’s style in this song, he is so graceful.
I also like the “salaam aapki meethi” song from this movie but it is more Shammi’s antics in this song that make it so watchable.
I also like “mujhe apna yaar bana lo” (that is a train song if I remember right).

I realise that I need to post the Shammi Kapoor songs on priority, as they are such fun.
