Hamdam mere maan bhi jaao

These days I am enjoying lisening to Rafi songs picturised on Shammi Kapoor. They are so energetic and uplifting that listening to them regularly must become a habit with everyone.
I sometimes wonder what I will do after I have listened to all the Rafi-Shammi-Shankar Jaikishan songs. I need not worry. They are so many of them. And then there are Rafi-Shammi-O P Nayyar songs which are just as outstanding (Kashmir ki Kali). Same is the case with rafi-Shammi-R D Burman songs (Teesri Manzil). Then there are songs picturised on actors who aped Shammi, viz Joy Mukherjee and Vishwajeet. The songs in their movies were also sung by Rafi, and with the same gusto.
Just recall the movie “Mere Sanam”. It has Vishwajeet in the lead alongwith Asha Parekh, and the Rafi songs of this movie are just as good as the Rafi songs in Shammi Kapoor movies. The lyrics of Majrooh Sultanpuri and the music of O P Nayyar is fantastic.
I have been listening to this song and I must say that I am loving this song “hamdam mere maan bhi jaao”.Rafi continues to amaze me. And the same must be said about O P Nayyar. He was supposed to have run out of steam after the decade of 1950s. But he came up with some stunning music in 1960s, first in “Kashmir ki Kali” and then in this movie “Mere Sanam”.

Reading your blog and listening to the songs has become a habit of mine now, I open it in the mornings and listen while I am drinking my coffee, and again in the nights before I go to bed! You are doing a great job!
The 60s had such fantastic songs that the following years could never produce so many great songs after the likes of O.P.Nayyar, L – P, and S – J. R. D. B came close but then there was only one of him, while earlier it seemed like there were so many outstanding music directors to produce great music.

My aim is to post all these wonderful songs in my blog, so that we can then have all these songs available at one place. Even though there are over 400 songs in this blog, I am a long way off from that target. there are literally thousands of great songs.

Joy Mukerjee and Vishwajeet owe a lot of their occasional success to the music of OP Nayyar and the voice of Rafi saab.
