First song post was by me in 2012 and the second one for Helen’s birthday in 2019. Even I am surprised after all these years that the film had 10 songs. It was criticized for being too long also when it released. The length has resulted in some songs being shortened in the movie. The films Editors Kenneth Philips and Bela Segal(sister of Sanjay Leela Bhansali) have done a good job of not cutting through the characters in the movie.
Film editors’ job is a very tough one. There have been many celebrated editors and some directors took on the job of editors too. Maybe they could not trust anyone else with their story, screenplay and directed film footage.
The third song from the film being posted in a solo by Kumar Sanu with chorus. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist and composers are Jatin-Lalit. This is the ‘Aankhen” song as well as the title song of the film.
It is clear that the songs are created with a great deal of love and care for the music and the stories they are trying to relate. This song is filmed in the ruins of a fort, with a lot of colourful carnival characters and masks demonic and not so demonic. As if to say that Raj the musician from Bombay is there in Goa to enjoy the festivities, but is distracted by the silent vision and presence of ‘Annie” who is present with her traditional attire and her belief in God, denounced by her father.
Much of the film is in flash back, as ‘Annie” is in coma in the hospital, and her father is reciting the whole story to her with his sign language and the sounds she knows well. Trying to revive her and in the end she is revived, for the sweet film to have a happy ending.
This Aankhen song has reminded me of another Kumar Sanu Aankhen song on Salman Khan. Let see when I get to that one.
