Rail mein jiya mora sananan hoye re

Posted on: January 14, 2009

Madan Mohan made his debut as a music director in “Ankhen” in 1950. What is this with Madan Mohan and the names of his movies ? By now we have had three more movies with the same name, released in 1960s, 1990s as well as in the decade of 2000.

This is the case not just with this movie, but with some other Madan Mohan movies as well. Some such names being “Anjaam”, “Khoobsurat”, “Baaghi”,”Fifty Fity”, Adalat”, “Sanjog”,”Anpadh”, “Haqueeqat”,”Sharabi”, “Chalbaz” etc.

Coming to “Ankhen” itself. One cannot find a Lata song in this movie. But there were a host of singers in this movie. The songs were sung by Shamshad Begum, Meena Kapur, Rafi,Mukesh, Madan Mohan himself, and even Raj Khosla (who would later make his name as an ace director).

And the song sung by Raj Khosla was quite a good timepass song too. I am sure it must have been popular thse days. The song was written by a lyricist called B D Mishra.

Here is this song “Rail me jiya mora sananan hoye re”. Enjoy this rare to find song once again.

What a sweet fun song! Never heard it before, thanks for digging this up.
Interesting facet of Raj Khosla: he could certainly hold a note, something which some of the present day “electronic” singers are unable to do so…

Raj Khosla in fact had come to Bombay not to become a director but to become a singer.

This takes me back to 1986 when I was on an office picnic.
We had gone to a far-off place by bus – and the journey was, as usual, filled with songs.

This was easily the most popular song at that time.

Very pleasant song.

Did not know the movie, did not know who sang it.
In fact I did not even know that Raj Khosla sang at all.
Btw, he is one of my favourite directors.

So you had heard this song in 1980s. I listened to this song for the first time only in this decade.

Ankhen film had a triangular plot.Bhrat Bhushan is the elder brother,Shekhar is younger fall in love with Nalini Jaywant, but by mistake gets married to elder brother, shock of which causes an accident and younger brother loses his eye sight. The entire movie revolves round this situation, till he regains vision, finds his love to be his Bhabhi. She too could not handle the situation and falls over a cliff into sea and so does Shekhar.
I am not sure if there was a Latajis song but one by Mukesh was excellent. Preet laga ke maine yeh fal paya, soodh boodh khoi chen gava ya. The second stanza is really good. Ek jhalak phir se dikh la de saamne aake itna batade, jyot bhujha kar in naino ke kis ke maan ka deep jalaya.

Oh, what a memory recall, today May 2016, sitting in my office just recalled my childhood song, as I was digging some oldies from the past when I was about 13 or 14(1965-66) years of age and having all cousins ( boys & girls) sitting around dholkee on a marriage ceremony mehndi night and singing this melodious song.
