Ghadi ghadi mora dil dhadke

Posted on: May 1, 2009

I recently realised that I have not posted even one song from “Madhumati” (1958) so far. As it is, there are so many great songs from so many movies that such an ommision is not really unexpected. There are just too many great songs that I have not yet posted. Despite posting more than one thousand songs, I am just scratching the surface.

Here is a lovely song from “Madhumati”. It is sung brilliantly, the lyrics are absolutely lovely, and the music is wonderful.

The audio of this song is great, and so far I have not yet talked about the picturisation. It is picturised on Vyjyantimala, arguably the most accomplisher dancer of all time among leading ladies of Bollywood, and her dance in this song is simply out of this world.

And I am sure I am going to write something similar about the other songs of this movie. This movie has just so many great songs, and I will cover them all in the days to come. In the meanwhile enjoy this song from “Madhumati”.

Song-Ghadi ghadi mora dil dhadke (Madhumati) (1958) Singer-Lata, Lyrics- Shailendra, MD- Salil Chowdhary

Lyrics

ghadi ghadi moraa dil dhadke
haay dhadke kyun dhadke
aaj milan ki belaa mein
sar se chunariyaa kyun sarke
ghadi ghadi moraa dil dhadke
haay dhadke kyun dhadke
aaj milan ki belaa mein
sar se chunariyaa kyun sarke
ghadi ghadi moraa dil dhadke

saari umar ke badle maine
maangi thhi ye shaam
aaj yahin kho jaaungi main
unki baahen thaam re
unki baahen thaam
pyaar milaa aanchal bhar ke
dil dhadke
kyun dhadke
aaj milan ki belaa mein
sar se chunariyaa kyun sarke
ghadi ghadi moraa dil dhadke
haay dhadke
kyun dhadke
aaj milan ki belaa mein
sar se chunariyaa kyun sarke
ghadi ghadi moraa dil dhadke

aaj papeehe tu chup rahnaa
main bhi hoon chup chaap
dil ki baat samajh lenge
saanvariyaa apne aap re
saanvariyaa apne aap
dekh zaraa dheeraj dhar ke
dil dhadke kyun dhadke
aaj milan ki belaa mein
sar se chunariyaa kyun sarke
ghadi ghadi moraa dil dhadke
haay dhadke kyun dhadke
aaj milan ki belaa mein
sar se chunariyaa kyun sarke
ghadi ghadi moraa dil dhadke

one of my early favourites when I started to listen to Hindi film songs. Vyjayanthimala is among my favoured actresses. All her films (don’t know about Sangam) usually have a dance song. So also Asha Parekh and Waheeda Rehman,my other faves. Songs of that era remain in our hearts and minds.

In fact, I feel that some incredibly talented people has been assembled while creating Madhumati.

What ? This is your first Madhumati song…did not realise that.
Good that you are planning to post a few more…this movie is FULL of classic songs. It is like one geetmala in itself.

I love this song “ghadi ghadi”. But then I like all the songs of Madhumati. “Daiya re daiya” and “jurmi sang aankh ladi” also have Vyjanthi dancing village dances.

Indeed this movie is like a geetmala in itself.
