Here is a spectacular song from “Mere Lal”. It is the song that has Laxmikant Pyarelal’s stamp all over it. It was sung by Lata and the song was written by Majrooh Sultanpuri.
This movie was a C grade movie with relatively unknown actors.This song was picturised on Indrani Mukherji and Indrani Mukherji is not cut out for picturisations like this where she is required to dance in a mela. She should have confined herself to playing long suffering housewife. Even here she looks like a reluctant Bhartiya Nari housewife who is being forced to dance against her wishes. The movie makers should have used Mumtaz or Asha Parekh instead for this picturisation. But then this was a C grade movie and they could not have afforded their fees.
The song itself is an out an out iconic song, so what if it was wasted on Indrani Mukherji.

This is a special song that i heard frequently in my childhood days. Had watched this movie also Devkumar and Indrani Mukherji, many years back.
Though the films’ release is before i was born, i do not know how this song get into my memory, and also in my list of ‘songs that bring back memories’!!!

An interesting Trivia about this song recently – The harmonium pieces were played by none other than Manohar Lal Sonik from the Mama Bhanja composer jodi Sonik Omi.
