Helen was known for her one mandatory dance in most movies of 1960s and 1970s. This would typically be a cabaret dance where she would sing and dance in a club. Another variation was where she would sing and dance to seduce the hero.
Here is another variation on a Helen number. Here she is dressed “properly”, viz clad in a sari, and she is trying to seduce Ashok Kumar. Now Ashok Kumar looks so old and haggard that I thought even Helen’s charms may not have much effect on him. But Helen tries gamely nevertheless. Perhaps she thought that she stood a good chance with Ashok Kumar, considering who the wife of Ashok Kumar is in this movie. Yes, it was that perenially boring and dull Nirupa Ray.
While the song is drawing to a close, Ashok Kumar notices from the windoiw that Nirupoa Ray has arrived, but he does not stop Helen and lets her finish the song and dance. The dance concludes as Nirupa Ray enters the room and finds them in a compromising position of sorts. Watching Nirupa Ray, Helen hurriedly tries to distance herself from Ashok Kumar.
The picturisation is surely somewhat amusing, even though the amusement is inadvertant.
This song was written by some lyricist called Taj Bhopali and was sung by Asha Bhonsle. Laxmikant Pyarelal composed the music.
